No. 80 A study on stabilization of negative ions by using various aroma oil-cyclodextrin aqueous solutions
Introduction
Our company has an attract attention technology in functional food and personal care fields which raises the water solubility, stability and bioavailability of functional ingredients by using the inclusion property of cyclodextrin (CD).
The stabilization and controlled release of flavors by CDs are known. Our previous study showed that CDs improved the stability of the terpenoids in tea tree oil (* for further details, please refer to the "17th" research on our homepage.).
It is said that terpenoids generate negative ions and lead to a relaxation effect like the "forest bathing" effect and a deodorizing function in a living space.
In this study, we report the effects of aroma oil-CD aqueous solutions including terpenoids stabilized by CDs on the generation of negative ions.
Experiment
We filled tap - water or various aroma oil - CD aqueous solutions into the air cleaner with the negative ion generator and measured the amount of negative ions in the room with the negative ion tester.
Samples
Control : tap water
aroma oil - CD aqueous solutions : the aroma oil – CD aqueous solutions were prepared by dissolving 1g methyl β-CD and 50mg aroma oil into 10mL water
Conditions for measurement
Place : a Japanese - style room
Room capacity : 2.2m x 3.5m x 4.4m = 33.88 m3
Room temperature : 10 - 15℃
Room humidity : 30 - 65%
Results
- The amount of negative ions was increased after adding anis oil -, eucalyptus oil -, thyme oil -, tee tree oil -, lavender oil - CD aqueous solutions was higher than that with tap water.
- The amount of negative ions was significantly increased in the case of tee tree oil - and lavender oil - CD aqueous solutions in comparison with other aroma oils.
Conclusion
- The amount of negative ions was increased after adding aroma oil-CD aqueous solutions including terpenoids stabilized by CDs to the air cleaner with the negative ion generator.
- This study suggested a new application of the air cleaner for creating a comfortable living space by using aroma oil - CD aqueous solutions.
