Butyric acid produced in the gut improves immune functions. Synbiotics are a combination of probiotics, which are bacteria contributing human health, and prebiotics, which can be selectively metabolized by gut bacteria to improve human health. Clostridium butyricum MII-588 (CBM) is one of probiotics with the ability to produce butyric acid, but it requires prebiotics to produce butyric acid in the gut. In this study, we investigated the usefulness of CBM and α-cyclodextrin (α-CD) as a synbiotic. Here, we found that CBM produced the highest amount of butyric acid from α-CD among various prebiotics. |
