Ursolic acid, a pentacyclic triterpenoid carboxylic acid, is the major component of many plants including apples, prunes, basil and rosemary and has been reported to possess many biological activities. Although of high interest, the usage of ursolic acid as a nutritional supplement has been limited by their poor hydrosolubility. In this study, the solubilizing effects on ursolic acid with cyclodextrin (CD) were explored. By the addition of γCD, the hydrosolubility of ursolic acid could be enhanced compared with by the addition of βCD. On the other hand, αCD could not affect the hydrosolubility of ursoric acid. The results suggested that γCD could be a potent enhancer of the bioavailability of ursolic acid by the formation of the inclusion complex. |
