Excess amount of fats cannot be absorbed in the small intestine and reach large intestine to be toxic to Bifidobacteria. Recently, we have reported that α-cyclodextrin (α-CD) suppresses the decrease of the number of Bifidobacterium caused by high-fat diet in mice study. However, it has been still unclear how α-CD affects Bifidobacterium. In this study, we investigated the effect of α-CD on the fatty acids’ toxicity against Bifidobacterium species in vitro. In conclusion, α-CD had the strongest inhibitory effect of fatty acids’ toxicity against Bifidobacteria among various prebiotics. |
