α-Mangostin, one of the xanthones in mangosteen fruit, has been reported to possess health benefits such as strong antioxidant, anticancer, and anti-inflammatory effect. However, the bioavailability of α-Mangostin is very low due to its poor solubility in water. In this study, we prepared α-, β- and γ-cyclodextrin (CD) complexes of mangosteen pericarp extract containing α-Mangostinand evaluated their solubilities in water and in fed state simulated intestinal fluid (FeSSIF). As a result, the highest solubility of α-Mangostin in FeSSIF was observed by complexation with α-CD, suggestingthat α-Mangostin-α-CD complex is expected to improve absorption in the body. |
