Porphyromonas gingivalis (P. gingivalis) is well known as one of key pathogens in chronic periodontitis. Alpha-cyclodextrin (α-CD) has an excellent antibacterial activity against oral bacteria via bacteriolytic activity. Previously, we found that α-CD has anti-biofilm formation activity against P. gingivalis. In this study, we investigated the removal effects of native CDs on the biofilms formed by P. gingivalis. As a result, it was observed that α-CD has the highest activity to remove the biofilms among native CDs. In conclusion, α-CD is useful to prevent chronic periodontitis. |
