Mangiferin (MG) is a natural xanthone compound found in mango leaves and peel. MG has been reported to have anti-diabetic, anti-inflammatory, and anti-obesity effects. Additionally, MG has been shown to inhibit skeletal muscle aging. However, MG has poor solubility in water, which poses challenges for the gut absorption of MG into the body. Furthermore, mango leaf extract (MGex) containing MG has a bitterness, which makes difficulty to use as a health food ingredient. Cyclodextrins (CDs) are widely used as additives in health foods and pharmaceuticals, because they have the inclusion properties to hydrophobic substances lead to the effect of reducing bitterness and increasing water solubility and absorbency of the hydrophobic substances. Therefore, in this study, we aimed to evaluate the improvement of gut absorption of MG and reducing bitterness of MGex by using CD. |
