Retinol, also known as vitamin A, is an important nutrient for maintaining healthy eyes, skin and mucous membranes, and is involved in visual and immune function. Retinol is expected to promote skin turnover and maintain healthy skin. For these reasons, retinol is used in cosmetics to reduce wrinkles and blemishes and increase skin moisture and elasticity. However, retinol is highly sensitive to oxygen and other oxidizing agents, especially when exposed to heat and light. Retinol activity also decreases with storage and handling at room temperature. Although the complexation of retinol with cyclodextrin (CD) has already been reported, its stability against air oxidation has not been fully verified. In this study, the oxidative stability of retinol by complexation with γ-CD was further investigated, with the aim of finding the most stable formulation under ideal storage condition. |
